Click and collect is an attractive delivery method. The customer orders the item online and can pick it up from you. Read more and offer the service yourself.
What is click and collect?
Click and collect is a popular delivery method that many webshops offer to provide a flexible shopping and delivery experience. Click and collect gives the customer the opportunity to collect the item in the webshop’s store or warehouse shortly after the item has been ordered online.
How does click and collect work?
Click and collect simply means click and pick up. The customer can order (click) the item on the webshop, and when the item is ready for pickup, the customer is notified and can collect the item (collect) in the store or at the warehouse during opening hours, whenever it suits them.
Some e-commerces choose to reserve the item and only carry out the payment when the customer picks it up. Others choose to take payment when the item is ordered online.
Whether you have a physical store or not, click and collect can be a great solution. If you only have a warehouse for your webshop, you can also allow customers to pick up items directly from your warehouse.
If you have both a store and a webshop with two different inventories, you need to consider how your click and collect setup should be handled. Should items be picked from the store’s inventory or from the webshop’s warehouse and then sent to the store? Or do you want to invite the customer to your main warehouse? If you have multiple stores, the customer may also need to choose their preferred pickup location.
Regardless of the solution, the flexibility in delivery options will help improve the delivery experience.
What are the benefits of click and collect?
There is good reason why click and collect has become a popular delivery method among many online consumers. There are several benefits in terms of both time and money.
The customer can get their hands on the item much faster than if it had to be shipped. As soon as the item is picked, it can be collected by the customer. Webshop owners typically also choose to offer click and collect as a free delivery method, since they also avoid shipping costs, which makes it attractive for the customer.
There are also several advantages for you as a webshop owner. In addition to pleasing the customer by offering a flexible and cost-free delivery option, you also have the opportunity to meet your customer face to face. You gain insights into your customer base and may even get some live feedback on your business. If you also have a physical store, it even opens up opportunities for additional sales when the customer visits your store to pick up their order. You also avoid shipping costs, so your margin on your products may increase.
Do you want to offer click and collect? Here’s how
It is actually quite straightforward. Here we walk you through how to easily handle your click and collect orders alongside your other orders.
Step-by-step: This is how easy it is:
- The customer orders an item on your webshop and chooses your delivery method “Click and collect”
- You receive the order and process it as usual
- You download a pickup label and mark the order as Ready for pickup. (Here you have the option to automatically send a personalised message to the customer - read more about this below.)
- The customer collects the package from you, and the order is automatically marked as Collected when scanned
When you handle your orders in Shipmondo, you can download a pickup label and mark the click and collect order as Ready for pickup. The pickup label is a note with recipient information that you can attach to the package, making it easy to find when the customer comes to collect it. It works much like a regular shipping label. You can see an example of a pickup label below:

Send a personal click and collect message
When you use Shipmondo Order Management, you can keep your customer updated on the order process and personalise the experience with customised messages. You can send Personalized Messages to your customers via SMS or email. You decide exactly what the message should say and can design it however you want so it matches your brand. You can even send automated emails with a tracking number and link. You can read more about that here.
When you mark your click and collect order as Ready for pickup, you can automatically send a message to the customer informing them that the package is ready for pickup.
Here you can see an example of what a personalised message might look like:

When the customer has collected the package, you can scan the barcode on the package, and the status of your order in Shipmondo will automatically be updated to Collected.
The solution can be used by anyone who uses Shipmondo’s order management. Get more information about the click and collect solution and see an example of the setup in a WooCommerce shop here.
