Smarter support for customs, parties, and international flows

With Shipmondo, you can easily manage customs, multiple parties, and complex international flows, while automating documents and minimizing errors.

Cross-border trade - especially with countries outside the EU - can quickly become complex. Customs and VAT regulations vary from country to country, carriers have different requirements, and businesses often face challenges when multiple parties are involved in a single shipment - from sender and recipient to importers and third-party freight payers.

With our latest update to the booking engine, we’ve made it possible to manage this complexity without losing clarity or control.

Complex customs rules require simple workflows

Handling customs and VAT correctly is essential to ensure shipments arrive safely, and international regulations continue to evolve.

There are new documentation requirements, specific number formats for certain countries, and complex VAT schemes such as VOEC in Norway, GB EORI in the UK, and IOSS for low-value goods shipped outside the EU.

At the same time, carriers have different requirements, ranging from mandatory fields to optional information about the sender, importer, or freight payer.

All of this can make it difficult to keep track of what information is required - and how to enter it correctly.

Shipments with multiple parties - greater flexibility

With the new features in Shipmondo, you can now handle these complex workflows in a simple and structured way.

Shipments involving multiple parties are now fully supported, allowing you to dynamically define senders, importers, and third-party freight payers depending on the carrier and service.

For some carriers, the freight payer may require a customer number and country code, while others also require a postcode. An importer may be mandatory for certain shipments but optional for others. The form automatically adapts, so you only need to fill in what’s required to complete the booking correctly - whether you’re shipping with, for example, UPS, DHL, or FedEx.

This eliminates manual data entry and reduces the risk of errors, while ensuring that shipments comply with the regulations in the destination country. At the same time, it gives you a clear overview of what information is expected based on the selected carrier and service.

For companies shipping dangerous goods or working with 3PL solutions, this added support provides even greater flexibility when booking shipments.

Depending on the carrier and service, additional fields for drop-off points, pickup, or returns will also appear after the sender and recipient sections. If you have fixed addresses, these can be saved in the address book and reused across shipments.

The form for booking manual shipments in Shipmondo only displays fields relevant to the specific shipment. If customs information is required, an extended sequence of fields will automatically appear to guide you through the process.

Automated and simplified management for logistics and 3PL companies

For businesses working with 3PL or managing multiple clients, these new features add even more value. You can now easily handle different customer requirements, such as varying freight payers, importers, or VOEC/GB EORI numbers.

Using shipment templates, you can control which information is applied to which customers - and when - without having to enter it manually for every shipment.

This reduces the risk of errors, ensures consistency in documentation, and makes it easier to manage complex B2B workflows with multiple customers in a clear and efficient way.

Automatic completion of customs documents

You can easily streamline your customs processes with automatic completion of customs documents in Shipmondo.

When your products are set up with the necessary customs information - including English product descriptions, tariff (HS) codes, country of origin, weight, and value - Shipmondo can automatically generate commercial invoices, pro forma invoices, and CN documents, depending on carrier requirements.

This eliminates repetitive manual work, reduces the risk of errors, and ensures that shipments clear customs quickly and correctly.

The feature also supports paperless trade with several carriers, allowing information to be sent digitally to both the carrier and customs authorities in the destination country. This results in fewer delays, less paperwork, and a more streamlined workflow - especially valuable for businesses with high order volumes or complex product catalogs. Automatic customs handling is easy to activate in Shipmondo.

First, ensure your products include all relevant customs data. If you’re using platforms like Shopify, this data can be transferred automatically via metafields, minimizing manual input.

Once your product data is in place, automatic customs can be enabled directly in the integration, and the relevant information will be applied to all export shipments without additional effort.

This is particularly valuable when shipping to countries outside the EU, where accurate customs information is crucial to avoid delays or extra fees. It also applies to bulk shipping, where multiple orders are processed together - only the consolidated shipment is cleared through customs, not the individual parcels, and the system ensures all required documents are completed correctly.

With these updates, you can expand into new markets outside the EU and manage complex international shipping workflows with the same simplicity you’re used to.

You get flexibility, accuracy, and full visibility - whether you’re handling VOEC shipments to Norway, exports to the UK with GB EORI, IOSS for low-value goods, or complex B2B flows with multiple parties.

With Shipmondo, customs and international trade become part of a smarter, more efficient workflow.
